Katrina C. Wyman, Youth Ministry Coordinator
Katrina is thrilled to have been hired in early March, 2009, to work with the middle school and high school age members of WPC’s congregation. Near the end of her Master's in Teaching Program, she decided firmly that she wanted to teach middle school students, despite her original interest in teaching 3rd through 5th grades. Katrina is encouraged by the creativity, growing self-awareness, and senses of humor of middle school students. She spent her first three years of teaching in an extremely diverse community in Brooklyn, New York, before returning to her home in the Pacific Northwest, where she found her niche in a small community and school south of Olympia: Oakville. Her experience teaching and coaching middle and high school students in Oakville has, in truth, refreshed and renewed her joy and faith. It sparked her interest in youth ministry. After attending one service at WPC and noting its strong similarity to the church in which she was raised—as well as the warmth and kindness of its members—she felt that this was a church where she "fit" and would be happy to stay. Katrina looks forward to helping guide and assist the youth of WPC. She is grateful for the many opportunities to help others—both within the church and outside the church—that her position here will afford.
